Let us talk about all the squirrel species that where they sleep.

Tree Squirrels

These tree squirrels built their nests on trees. The nests they made are of two different types. Once, they made look like birds nests that you have also seen. Other are leaf nests that are also known as dreys. Leaf nests are made of grass, dry leaves, and tree twigs. The nest they built is at a height of around 30 to 45 feet. If they don’t want to build a new nest for living, they search gouged-like places in trees. These places are often found in old trees. They found these types of places and lived there.

In other areas, these squirrels hibernate throughout the winter because they have to keep their body warm, so that’s why due to so cold they live there in the winter season.

The burrows that ground squirrels dig underground are around 4 inches in diameter. They dig large size of tunnel-like holes in which they live. The tunnels they dig also have different opening sources. Now the question is, why did they dig large tunnels? The answer is that; ground squirrels do not dig these large tunnels only for sleeping but also for storing food. Time by time, these tunnels are changed into large colonies and societies of multiplex structure. So there is a proper system for everything.
